Singleton pregnancy

Due date, pre-pregnancy weight and consistency checks.

The due date determines gestational week and trimester. Pre-pregnancy weight feeds the basal-metabolism calculation and activity produces total expenditure. The energy increment is 0 kcal/day in trimester one, +350 in trimester two and +460 in trimester three. Protein starts from 0.90 g/kg, with increments of +1, +8 and +25 g/day in the three trimesters.

Required data

Active singleton pregnancy, plausible due date, valid pre-pregnancy weight, age, height and activity.

Output

Week, trimester, energy, energy increment, protein, carbohydrate and fat.

Data check

If essential data are missing or fall outside supported ranges, automatic calculation pauses and requests a review.

Lactation

Postpartum stage and feeding mode change the calculation.

Baseline energy uses the National Academies 2023 TEE equations with age, height, weight and activity. The increment is +400 kcal/day for exclusive feeding in the first six months, +330 for mixed feeding, +380 from 6 to 12 months and +335 after 12 months. Protein starts at 0.90 g/kg and adds 20 g in the first six months and 13 g thereafter; fat starts at 30% of energy and carbohydrate is constrained to 45-60%.

Separate stages

First six months, second six months and extended lactation derive from the actual birth date.

Consistency check

The result appears within the 20-35% energy-from-fat range. Data outside that range require review.

Coherent result

Missing or inconsistent data pause the calculation and prompt correction.
